It’s true, I have always been afraid of horses…
I didn’t want to be. I am from Kentucky, for goodness sakes. I wanted to be able to gallop across a wide-open field with my horse. That was my dream. But there was this one pony, when I was about 8 years old who took me on a wild ride that I could never forget. So, I gave up.
Then, I met this cowboy who just happened to be studying to become a horse vet…
And, 38 years and three horse trainers later, I am still afraid of horses—at least on their backs. For 25 of those years, I worked in my husband’s equine veterinary clinic. Because I was so afraid of these beautiful creatures, I watched their every move. Over time, I started to learn a few things. Then, I started collecting their stories.
My sisters were the real cowgirls! I rode simply to keep from being left behind. We rode down Hwy 70, through the land behind St Henry Church, down Vaughn’s Gap and across Hwy 100 to Percy Warner Park. We could never do that now. Those were the days! I can’t wait to read your confessions.
